The City of Montreal has decided to drastically cut terrace permit fees for downtown restaurants in the Ville-Marie borough, until 2030. The idea is to help businesses struggling with ongoing construction. Terraces are essential for Montreal summers. Restaurant owners are happy about this, seeing it as a positive step. A restaurant on Ste-Catherine Street West, which used to pay up to $11,000, will now only pay around $1,400.
