The summer of her 13th year, Christine meets her father for the first time, in a hotel in Strasbourg, in eastern France. He is elegant, charismatic, director of the translation service at the Council of Europe. He impresses. Christine had often dreamed of this moment. She tells herself that she will finally be able to say to her classmates: \\"I also have a father\\" and take a place in the life of this man, on the same terms as his new wife and his two other children.
